What do I need to know?
We hold a limited amount of records relating to roads employment.
Some records are directly about a person's employment with one of the roads agencies, for instance VPRS 1752 Wage Records (1940-1980) of the Country Roads Board, the predecessor of today's VicRoads. This is the main series of records we hold relating to roads employment in Victoria. You can either browse the contents of these records by clicking the above link in this paragraph but it will also appear in results for the date search below.
We also have other records relating to persons or companies that were given contracts to complete work on roads on behalf of Victorian Government agencies.
Some recent employee records may be closed to public access if they divulge personal information and could be closed for up to 75 years from the time they were created.
How do I search?
Enter a relevant year date ranges to browse records that we hold relating to roads employment, staffing and contractors for that time. Alternately, you can also browse all records that we have identified as being most useful for researching roads employees by searching without entering any dates.

About these records
Various Victorian government departments and agencies have been responsible for road management, construction and maintenance. Some of the records they created relate to people who worked for these government agencies. Some aspects of the operation of Victoria's roads are regulated or funded by the Australian Government and therefore records about staff relating to those operations may be held by the National Archives of Australia.
