Dr David J Evans is a former Principal Research Scientist with CSIRO Materials Science and Engineering based in Geelong. He has also been active in charity work and served as the Honorary Secretary and later Executive Officer of Sirovilla Inc., a Geelong-based housing charity established in 1972. While serving in this role he published the organisation’s history in 1999 under the titleThe Sirovilla story, Patsey Pacific, Belmont, Victoria, 1999. David moved with his family to West Melbourne in 1995 and developed an interest in local history particularly in the heritage properties of the region. Now in retirement David has made extensive use of Public Record Office of Victoria to trace the history of a number of West Melbourne’s heritage properties. He is a committee member of Hotham History Project Inc.
